Project Outreach

On June 4, 2015 nearly one hundred young musicians gathered at Berlin Elementary

and Orchard Valley School to meet and work with volunteers from the Montpelier Chamber

Orchestra (MCO) in preparation for a concert, performed side-by-side with the full

orchestra that evening at Montpelier High School. They had been preparing their music for

months beforehand with their classroom music teachers at area schools, including Doty

Elementary School (Worcester), Rumney Elementary School (Middlesex), East Montpelier

Elementary School, Berlin Elementary School, Orchard Valley Waldorf School, Montpelier

Montessori School and Union Elementary School (Montpelier). The concert was the

culmination of that work.

Marcia Clark, one of the collaborating teachers writes this:

“Working the with the MCO on their Outreach Program was a privilege as well as a labor of

love. It was amazing to see my students’ reactions to the experience, their appreciation and

wonder as they talked the next day about Evan Premo’s bass solo performance, and their

pride in their own participation.  They felt like rock stars!  It was an experience they will

never forget, and for some it opened a world of music they would otherwise never have had

the opportunity to enjoy.”

Thank you to the sponsors of MCO and Project Outreach.
